Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 27, 2026

VetDiscounts, doing business as VetDiscounts.org (“VetDiscounts,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This policy explains what personal information this website (the “Site”) collects, how we use it, who handles it for us, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.

This policy covers this informational website and donations made through it. The full VetDiscounts platform, including member accounts, service verification, and the discount directory, is not live yet. It will have its own privacy policy before it launches, and we will ask for your permission before we collect anything new from you.

  1. 1. Information we collect

    1.1 Information you give us. We collect only what you choose to send us:

    • Mailing list signup: first name, last name, email address, the group you identify with (member, business, supporter, or volunteer), whether you are interested in our beta program (a checkbox), and, if you sign up as a business, your business name.
    • Contact form: first name, last name, email address, the group you identify with, business name (businesses only), subject, your message, and an optional checkbox to join our newsletter.
    • Donations: when you donate through the Givebutter donation form on the Site, Givebutter collects your name, email address, billing or mailing address, donation amount and frequency, and any optional details you choose to add, such as a dedication, a comment, your employer for matching gifts, or a request to stay anonymous in public donor lists. Givebutter shares this information with us so that we can record and acknowledge your gift.

    Please do not put sensitive information in these forms or in your messages. That includes Social Security numbers, military service records, medical or benefits details, and government ID numbers. We do not need them to answer you, and this Site is not set up to protect them.

    1.2 Payment information. Card, bank, and digital wallet details are collected and processed by Givebutter’s payment processors (such as Stripe, PayPal, and Venmo) under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not receive or store your full card or bank account number.

    1.3 Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, we and our providers collect:

    • Usage information through Google Analytics: pages viewed, scrolling, clicks on links that leave the Site, site search, video engagement, file downloads, approximate location (city level), device and browser type, and the page or site that referred you.
    • Server logs through our host, Vercel: your IP address, browser or device type (user agent), the page requested, and the date and time of the request.
    • Bot-detection signals through Vercel BotID: when you submit a form, browser and device signals are analyzed to tell people from automated programs. We also use a hidden form field that automated programs fill in and people do not.
    • Givebutter cookies and similar technologies: when the Givebutter donation form loads on the Site, Givebutter sets its own cookies and may use similar technologies, as described in Section 6.2.

    1.4 Email activity. Our newsletters are sent through Brevo. Brevo records whether an email was opened (using a small invisible image) and which links in it were clicked. We use this to see which updates are useful.

    1.5 What we do not do on this Site. We do not collect government ID or service verification documents here. We do not place advertising pixels or session recording tools on the Site ourselves. The Givebutter donation form is the only third-party content on the Site that sets its own cookies.

  2. 2. How we use information

    We use the information above to:

    • send you launch news and updates you asked for, grouped by the group you chose;
    • reply to your message and follow up on partnership, sponsorship, volunteer, or beta program inquiries;
    • keep a record of business and partner contacts so that we can follow up with them (see Section 4);
    • process and record donations, send receipts and thank-you messages, manage recurring gifts, answer donor questions, and keep the financial and tax records the law requires of a nonprofit;
    • understand how the Site is used and improve it;
    • keep the Site secure, block spam, fraud, and automated abuse, and prevent misuse; and
    • comply with the law and protect our rights.

    We add donors to our newsletter only if they ask to be added. We will still send receipts and messages about your donation.

  3. 3. What we do not do

    We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent or trade it, including our donor list. We do not share it with advertisers or use it for targeted advertising, and we have not turned on Google’s advertising features in Google Analytics. Givebutter is an independent company, and what it does with information it collects on its own behalf is governed by its own privacy policy (see Section 6.2).

  4. 4. Business contacts and our contact records

    If you sign up or write to us as a business, we also save your business name, your name, your email address, any beta program interest, and the text of your message in our contact records system (a customer relationship management database, or “CRM”). We use it to follow up about partnerships and sponsorships. Individuals who sign up as members, supporters, or volunteers are not added to the CRM unless they write to us about a partnership or sponsorship.

  5. 5. Service providers

    We use a small number of providers that process information for us. Each may use the information only to provide its service to us, except as noted for Givebutter and payment processors.

    • Brevo (based in France) stores our mailing list, sends our newsletters, and sends contact form messages to our team. Brevo may process data in the European Union and other locations as described in its terms.
    • Vercel (United States) hosts the Site, keeps request logs, serves images, and provides bot protection.
    • Google Analytics (Google LLC, United States) provides Site usage statistics. Google sets its own cookies for this purpose. See Section 6.1.
    • Supabase (United States) hosts the database behind our CRM.
    • Our team email provider receives the notification emails that our forms send to our team. We are moving this service to Google Workspace.
    • Givebutter (United States) provides our donation form, processes donations, sends donation receipts on our behalf, and keeps our donor records. Givebutter also has its own relationship with donors and handles some information under its own privacy policy, available at givebutter.com/privacy.
    • Payment processors used by Givebutter, such as Stripe, PayPal, and Venmo, process payments under their own terms and privacy policies.

    We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect the safety or rights of others, or in connection with a merger or transfer of our programs to another organization. Each provider’s own privacy policy also applies to what it does with data.

  6. 6. Cookies, analytics, and tracking signals

    6.1 Google Analytics cookies. Google Analytics places first-party cookies on your browser (named _ga and _ga_*) that last up to about two years. They count visits and show how the Site is used. Google Analytics runs when you visit the Site and we do not currently show a cookie consent banner.

    6.2 Givebutter cookies. When the donation form loads, Givebutter sets its own cookies and may use similar technologies to run the form, prevent fraud, and remember your preferences. Givebutter’s privacy policy says that its data partners may use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies on its services. We do not control these technologies or the information Givebutter collects through them. To learn more or make choices about them, see givebutter.com/privacy and Givebutter’s cookie policy.

    6.3 How to opt out. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The Site will still work, although blocking Givebutter’s cookies may stop the donation form from working. You can also install Google’s Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. You can stop email open and click tracking by blocking images in your email program or by unsubscribing.

    6.4 Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal. We do not use your information to track you across other websites for our own purposes, and we do not sell it or share it for advertising, so these signals do not change what we do. Google Analytics and Givebutter may not respond to them. Using the opt-out tools above is the most reliable way to limit analytics.

  7. 7. How long we keep information

    7.1 Newsletter contacts. Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information. After you unsubscribe, we keep only your email address on a suppression list so that you are not emailed again.

    7.2 Contact form messages. In our email system and Brevo sending logs, for up to two years after the message.

    7.3 CRM records for businesses and partners. For up to three years after our last contact with you, then we delete or anonymize them. If you ask us to delete them sooner, we will, unless we must keep them by law.

    7.4 Donation records. For as long as we need them for tax, accounting, audit, and legal purposes, generally seven years after the donation. Because the law requires us to keep these records, we may not be able to delete them on request, but we will stop using them for anything other than recordkeeping.

    7.5 Server logs. For the short period set by Vercel, and no longer than we need for security and troubleshooting.

    7.6 Analytics data. For no longer than 14 months, according to our Google Analytics settings.

  8. 8. Your choices and rights

    8.1 Unsubscribe. Use the link at the bottom of any email we send you.

    8.2 Access, correction, and deletion. You may ask us to tell you what information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email policies@vetdiscounts.org, or write to the address in Section 13. We may need to confirm your identity first, for example by replying from the email address you gave us. We will respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why. Donation records are subject to Section 7.4.

    8.3 Donor choices. You can ask to be anonymous in any public donor recognition, and you can manage or cancel a recurring donation through the link in your Givebutter receipt or by emailing us. For information Givebutter holds under its own privacy policy, you can also contact Givebutter directly.

    8.4 State privacy rights. Some states give residents additional rights over their personal information. We honor reasonable requests from residents of any state to the extent the law applies to us. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of with us in that respect. If we deny a request, you may reply and ask us to reconsider.

    8.5 Marketing emails. Our newsletter emails identify us as the sender, include our mailing address, and contain a working unsubscribe link. We will remove you promptly after you unsubscribe.

  9. 9. Data security

    The Site is served over encrypted HTTPS, and access to our mailing list, CRM, and donor records is limited to team members who need it. Payments are handled by Givebutter’s payment processors, not by us. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. We work to protect your information and keep only what we need.

  10. 10. Children's privacy

    This Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. You must be at least 18 to donate. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us at policies@vetdiscounts.org and we will delete it.

  11. 11. Visitors outside the United States

    VetDiscounts is based in the United States and the Site is intended for visitors in the United States. If you visit from another country, your information will be processed in the United States and by providers in other countries, including France. The Site is not designed to meet the legal requirements that apply in the European Union or the United Kingdom.

  12. 12. Changes to this policy

    We will update this policy when our practices change, including when the full VetDiscounts platform launches. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If we make a material change to how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you by email or by notice on the Site before the change applies to that information.

How do I unsubscribe?

Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we send. We keep only your email address on a suppression list so you are not emailed again.

Can I see, correct, or delete my information?

Yes. Email policies@vetdiscounts.org or write to VetDiscounts, Attn: Privacy, 5900 Balcones Drive, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731. We may confirm your identity first, and we respond within 45 days.

What do you collect when I donate?

Givebutter collects your name, email, billing or mailing address, the amount and frequency of your gift, and any optional details you add, and shares them with us so we can record and acknowledge your gift.
